Ph.D. (Agriculture) Community Design base on Landscape Planning
Mitsunari Terada (Charlie), PhD is a young landscape planner and researcher who facilitates child-friendly communities through interdisciplinary practice and research. He currently serves as an assistant professor at the Research Institute for Children’s Physical Health, Nippon Sport Science University, Japan.
His recent work, developed in close collaboration with sports and physical sciences, focuses on the design and governance of parks, schoolyards, and neighborhoods from the perspectives of climate change adaptation and inclusive play environments. Working with multiple stakeholders, he engages directly with children, residents, practitioners, and policymakers, from local communities to central government.
He previously lived for seven years in a neighborhood association center as a co-manager, gaining long-term, practice-based insight into community life and participation. He is also actively involved in professional and civic organizations, serving on the board of IPA Japan, as a senior researcher at the Information Research Center of the Japan Adventure Playground Association, as a committee member for inclusive playgrounds in urban parks at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and as a third-party evaluator for UNICEF’s Child Friendly Cities Initiative.
